About The Andrews
Beachcombings Studio creates handcrafted one-of-a-kind seaglass jewelry that speaks of the natural world. I combine treasures discovered on the beach, precious and semiprecious stones and fine silver in simple, elegant designs that echo time spent by the shore. Each piece that I create is inspired by the unique glass that I am working with.
I am passionate about collecting seaglass and have been collecting since we lived in Maine on Ferry Beach. Much of the seaglass I use comes from what we have collected in Maine and Canada, but I also purchase from other collectors all over the world. I am also fortunate to have a friend that collects for me in places like Puerto Rico where glass is still abundant.
When I first started collecting seaglass over 40 years ago, people would look at me combing the beach and ask what I was doing. When I told them that I was collecting seaglass they would look at me like I was a little bit "off". Now, everyone is doing it. Back then, glass was plentiful. Now, because everyone collects and because of our recycling laws and bottles being plastic, seaglass is getting to be a "rarity".
It is my personal opinion that in a few years seaglass will become very rare. This has made me cherish every piece that I find as a true gift. It is my hope that my jewelry bestows on each and everyone a feeling of peace and tranquility that is found by walking on the beach. Happy browsing!
